MP NEWS : Paul meets campaigners to discuss M 40 noise reduction - 19th July 2006

Marlow and Wycombe MP Paul Goodman, met Ken Edwards, chairman of the M 40 environmental group, and other campaigners at the House of Commons last week to discus noise reduction on the M 40 Paul said: "The noise from M 40 makes life miserable for many of my constituents who live close to the Motorway - and I will do everything I can to support these campaigners."

" We agreed to write a letter of support for the M 40 environmental group ahead of their forthcoming meeting with the Highways Agency. In addition, we offered to ballot for an adjournment debate in order to raise the profile of the issue."

An official report by the highways agency on M 40 noise hot spots is due to be published shortly. Campaigners are concerned however that the method used to measure noise severity (Noise Severity Indices) produces a heavy bias against countryside areas. This means the Highways agency would not be required to take mitigating action.

The Meeting was also attended by other Buckinghamshire and South Oxfordshire MP's, Boris Johnson, David Lidington, and Dominic Grieve.
